MD DGS, Courts of Appeal

HENRY ADAMS was tasked by the Maryland Department of General Services (DGS) to prepare construction documents for the $300K replacement of the building-wide fire alarm system in the Robert C. Murphy Courts of Appeal Building and to make improvements to the pre-action sprinkler system serving the Maryland Thurgood Marshall State Law Library located on the first floor of the building.

The project consists of the replacement the 110,700 GSF facility’s fire alarm system and upgrading the pre-action sprinkler system serving the Law library. The existing fire alarm system remained in service during the upgrades. The existing obsolete fire alarm system was replaced with a new addressable fire alarm system with horn and strobe notification for occupant warning and evacuation. Fire alarm system communications were provided to a central monitoring system. The obsolete pre-action sprinkler system was also updated to include new sprinklers, proper spacing by code, and a new air compressor with nitrogen generator. The electrical scope included providing power to the new fire alarm and sprinkler system equipment.
