McCormick Technical Innovation Center, Fourth Floor Lab Renovations

Henry Adams, llc provided the mechanical, electrical and plumbing engineering design services for the 15,000 SF McCormick Technical Innovations Center Fourth Floor renovation project. The project included culinary research labs and office space.

The mechanical engineering included air distribution systems utilizing variable volume air terminal units with reheat coils, return air distribution coupled with sixteen custom designed odor capture hoods and activated carbon air filtration, two fume hood exhaust systems, three application specific snorkel exhaust systems and a robotic room air handling system. The five existing packaged rooftop air conditioning units were replaced with five custom-designed and built variable volume split air conditioning units with associated condensing units. The units were designed to be mounted on the original rooftop unit curbs for installation over a weekend to minimize downtime. New direct digital controls for the new equipment were integrated into the existing Carrier head-end control system.

The plumbing engineering included sanitary/vent, domestic cold water, domestic hot water, domestic hot water return, compressed air and gas. Tempering valves were provided for new emergency eyewash and shower units. The fire protection engineering included new main and branch distribution downstream of the zone control assemblies coordinated with the new space layout. Electrical work included all new lighting and controls, branch circuiting, fire alarm modifications, motor control center modifications, electrical work for the replacement of five roof top ventilation units and powering of a multitude of industrial type kitchen equipment.
