Next One Up
“When the school day ends, life in Baltimore begins.” Next One Up founder Matt Hanna said in a statement. The new headquarters for the non-profit Next One Up will open its doors in 2023! The mentoring program for about 150 young men provides a place to learn and grow physically and academically. The one-of-a-kind facility focuses on educational assistance by helping city youth develop career skills through STEM and IT classes.
The project involved the conversion of a former Brick Bodies gym in Belvedere Square. Thanks to a capital campaign that raised more than $2M towards the $3.5M facility, the organization closed the deal on the new building. Ardently referred to as “Base Camp”, the 14,400 SF facility will finally provide a permanent home for the organization.
Students have access to areas for tutoring and academic classrooms, a maker space for robotics, a STEM lab; a technology lab with 3D printers and computers, a recording studio for podcasts and music, study spaces, a gym that will include a locker room and athletic equipment, and a social lounge offering meals from the kitchen.
Henry Adams provided the MEP engineering design for the scope of work. Our team worked with Alexander Design Studio and The Whiting-Turner Contracting Company in aiding former lacrosse all-star Matt Hanna, founder & CEO of Next One Up.
