Henry Adams provided electrical engineering services for the complete arc flash study serving the campus, comprised of 13 buildings. This program helps protect workers on the premises from electrical arc flash hazards. The program was designed to bring VAMC into compliance with applicable standards for existing installations (NEC) and for worker safety in operating facilities (OSHA 29 CFR 1910, NFPA 70E). The project included a detailed investigation to provide updated panel schedules on electrical distribution and branch circuit panels. Also involved a field investigation of overcurrent protective devices, coordination study, short circuit study, circuit tracing, and installation of warning labels.

The protective device coordination study examined the ratings and settings of the existing overcurrent protective relays and breaker trip devices and identified those that were not properly coordinated.

  • The project included multiple electrical system configurations.
  • The study complied with NFPA 70E requirements.
  • Utilized the latest version of SKM System Analysis Software.
  • The project included a coordination and short circuit study.
