College Park City Hall
City of College Park
Henry Adams had provided the MEP/FP engineering design for the new, award-winning $43M, 90,000 SF, Class-A City Hall and University Office Building. The building design had a connected atrium, as well as first-floor retail space, and a prominent public plaza. The project had been designed to meet LEED Silver at a minimum, and was awarded with LEED Gold certification.
The focus of the project was to redevelop a prominent location and to demonstrate the cooperation and shared vision of the City of College Park and the University of Maryland for an improved "College-City" environment.
The College Park City Hall had been designed to meet the needs of its specialized public functions. This had included a building lobby with service windows and an information counter, a City Council chambers with a private conference room, state-of-the-art audio-visual equipment, a cable television recording studio, a staff area and public seating, City Department offices, public meeting and conference rooms, as well as storage and shower facilities.
The University Office Building space had been adjoined and compatible with the rest of City Hall. The ground floor of the building had been anticipated to become retail space. There had also been a public plaza occupying the Baltimore Avenue frontage, including programmable space, seating, other street furniture, landscaping, and public art.
The mechanical scope had included HVAC and associated controls, as well as sanitary, venting, water, and gas systems. Henry Adams had assisted with planning energy and water efficiency goals. The electrical scope had included power and lighting. The fire protection scope had included fire alarm and sprinkler systems. Fire protection design had detailed service entrance, located zone assemblies and sprinkler mains, and included a performance specification for sprinkler system layout.
This project received two awards which include the following:
