The former Epstein’s department store and warehouse, located in Baltimore’s Highlandtown neighborhood, is being redeveloped into a 182,000 GSF mixed-use building.

The new, modern-looking, 5-story development will include 140 apartment units and 3,300 SF of retail space. The building will feature a partial brick exterior and scattered balconies that overlook Bank Street. The retail space will be in the corner of the building topped by the housing units. The building will also include 110 enclosed parking spaces, totaling 50,000 SF, and bike storage with an additional 2,200 SF.

The existing Epstein’s department store will be demolished to make room for the new development. The project is expected to break ground early 2020 with a 14-month construction schedule.

Epstein’s family-owned department store spanned 56,700 SF and was vacant for years. Epstein’s at Bank Street was the last location of the Baltimore-based retail chain, which closed in 1991.

Henry Adams is providing mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and fire protection engineering services for the up-and-coming development.
