The ribbon has officially been “cut” for the grand opening of the Rookery, the newest addition to The Nature Place. The $4.3M addition opened in March of this year, and was inaugurated with a ribbon “cutting” ceremony led by project leaders and three special guests – rescue turtles Kenny, Hannah, and Angelica – as they nibbled through a ribbon made of lettuce.

Home to Berks Nature’s headquarters located in Angelica Creek Park, The Nature Place is a destination for those who wish to learn and connect with nature through exploration, education, inspiration, and conservation. The Nature Place strives to teach the next generation to be “environmental stewards” through the growth of community engagement in the preservation and appreciation of natural resources.

The expansion broadens the facility’s ability to serve more students in the community by further developing its available educational spaces. The second-floor addition features a 2,200 SF indoor classroom, and 2,500 SF of flexible outdoor gathering space. The outdoor space can be used for community events or to host large school groups of up to 300 people.
