Commissioning & Energy Services Professional

We are seeking an enthusiastic candidate to join our Commissioning and Energy Services team.  Commissioning experience desired, seven years or more preferred.  Commissioning or energy-related certification a plus.  Commissioning projects may include Mechanical/HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and sometimes architectural and related systems.  The Commissioning and Energy Services team also provides construction administration services for some of the firm’s projects.


Essential Functions:

(a) Prepare commissioning plans, specifications, installation checklists, functional performance tests, and other commissioning-related documents.

(b) Coordinate and attend on-site commissioning meetings, review installations, conduct functional performance tests.

(c) Execute construction phase review services consisting of submittal review, RFI responses, supplemental instructions, construction logs, field reports, and meeting minutes.

(d)  Engage in the testing and commissioning of various systems.

(e) Utilize Microsoft Office, Revit, and/or AutoCADD and MicroStation and other industry software.

(f) Familiarity with ENERGY STAR Portfolio Manager and energy modeling software experience preferred.

(g) Participate actively in client meetings, conduct field surveys, including crawl spaces and above ceilings, and thoroughly document existing conditions.



(a) Understanding of MEP engineering concepts. 

(b) Knowledge of MEP installation best practices.  

(c) Construction drawing and specification interpretation experience.

(d) Knowledge of design and construction practice, including sequencing and responsibilities.

(e) Communicate, collaborate, and coordinate effectively with clients, co-workers, and others.

(f) Multi-tasking a must. 

(g) Committed to maintaining a high standards in the delivery of technical solutions, customer service, and business ethics.


 Education and Experience:

(a) Required -

(i) Five years of commercial construction experience in HVAC or electrical system installation.

(ii) Five years of MEP commissioning and/or energy services including energy audits, retro-commissioning, benchmarking and troubleshooting.

  (b) Preferred -

(i)    Four year college degree.

(ii)  Trade, Inspection, or Professional Engineering license.


Work Authorization/Security Clearance - This position requires the ability to pass a background check and obtain clearance for client and government contracts. United States citizenship is a must.


Travel - This position requires regular day trips throughout the mid-Atlantic area. It requires an occasional overnight trip and travel by plane. It requires a valid driver's license and appropriate vehicle.
