Whitehall Mill
Henry Adams provided the MEP engineering design for the adaptive re-use of the historic Whitehall Mill into a $12M, 77,000 SF multi-use and commercial space. The new design contains a 6,000 SF restaurant overlooking the Jones Falls, retail/office space and 28 apartments on the second and third floors. The building has 22,000 SF of office space on the second floor. Additionally, 18,000 SF is set aside for a marketplace for vendors selling grocery items.
Henry Adams' project scope included the MEP engineering design for the renovation of the Whitehall Mill. The mechanical design included HVAC and associated temperature controls. The electrical design included power and lighting; voice/data; access control, intrusion detection, video surveillance, and fire alarm; and, building mounted exterior lighting. The plumbing design included sanitary, vent, water, gas, and fire suppression.
The unique challenges of this particular MEP design included providing meticulous attention to the historic nature of the building, as well as providing special consideration to the restaurant, retail and office spaces that standalone and require a special attention to the needs of the tenant. The MEP engineering design for the restaurant, retail and office spaces was a warm, dark shell. Whereas, the MEP design for the apartments was a complete MEP and sprinkler/fire alarm design.
