The Grimke School project officially broke ground last week.

The historic building is undergoing a $45M redevelopment to create a mixed-use building that includes family residential units, office space, live-work units, and ground-floor retail. The new building will consist of 133,000 SF housing a larger area for the African-American Civil War Museum.

Located in Washington, DC, the redevelopment of the original 1887 building encompasses restoration efforts to the historic qualities of the structure while adding new additions that will benefit the community.

The reimagined building is anticipated to open in October 2020.

Henry Adams provided the MEP engineering design for the project. The scope included HVAC and associated building controls, plumbing systems, power, lighting, fire alarm, and communications.
