Senior Mechanical Engineer

As a member of the technical production staff, the Senior Mechanical Engineer is responsible for the analysis, design, and review of mechanical systems. This includes drawings, specifications, reports, cost estimates, and similar products and services. Mechanical systems generally include HVAC, plumbing, control systems, medical gases, process piping, and fire protection. In addition, the Senior Mechanical Engineer is responsible for project management when assigned and client relationship management on a firm wide basis.

Essential Functions:

(a) Actively participate in scope assessment and fee preparation including attending pre-proposal meetings.

(b) Prepare mechanical design solutions using a thorough knowledge of industry and constructability practices.

(c) Incorporate a detailed understanding of the governing codes and standards affecting the work.

(d) Utilize Trane/Trace, Carrier/HAP, Microsoft Office products, CADD, BIM/Revit, and other industry software.

(e) Conduct field surveys, energy audits, life cycle cost analyses, cost estimating, and energy modeling.

(f) Execute construction phase review services consisting of submittal review, RFI responses, and changes.

(g) Manage and mentor staff.

Education and Experience:

(a) Required -

(i) Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering, Bachelor of Architectural Engineering, or equivalent.

(ii) Professional Engineer Licensure and minimum 10 years of experience in the design of building related mechanical infrastructure.

(b) Preferred -

(i) LEED AP or equivalent.

(ii) Commissioning certification or experience.

Supervisory Responsibility - Ability to manage projects and staff. Ability to mentor less experienced staff.

Work Environment - Most work is performed in an office environment. Regular trips to a variety of locations for meetings and observations are also required.

Expected Hours - This is a full-time office position based on a 40-hour work week. Normal days are Monday through Friday. Normal core hours are 9AM to 4PM with up to a one-hour unpaid lunch beginning at 11:45AM. A regular starting time between 7AM and 9AM can be negotiated with your supervisor. Requires working overtime as necessary when required to satisfactorily meet project schedules.

Work Authorization/Security Clearance - This position requires the ability to pass a background check and obtain clearance for client and government contracts. Must be approved for working in the United States.
